Jerusha:
Hey there! You can try to reach me today, but unless you call in about 5 minutes, you won't catch us. You'll probably have better luck on Monday... I'd say Sunday, but I don't know what we're doing yet. :D It's Pat's last day off before another 8 day stretch, so we'll probably be trying to get out.

Gads ... if I hear "It's only a (insert whatever animal is in question)" one more time I'm likely to take someone's head off!
What the hell is wrong with people? Did we as society screw up so bad that even the nicest individual has no fucking clue that how we treat our animal companions is a reflection of how we feel about other people? I can't tell you how many times I've gotten the "blank stare" when trying to explain to someone that they are causing pain to fish that are kept in a tank that is too small ... or that their dog barks because they leave it outside and never give it attention ... or that their bird plucks it's feathers because it's lonely. I was watching a tv show a bit ago and a comment was made that some people feel it's a waste of time and resources to save the life of someones dog or cat that is in trouble ... how can this be a waste?!? This is a living creature that loves and is loved by someone.
Thank the God and Goddess that our police and firefighters don't feel this way. Hell, even if you don't believe all life is sacred (I certainly do) it's still a life! And when we (either individually or as a society) decide that one life isn't worth the effort, where does that take us? And I think the "throw away" mentality our society has now just exacerbates things. Don't want to train that puppy? Take it back and get another. What's next? Your kid doesn't have the right hair or eye color so you'll just send him to an orphanage? I'm by no means a perfect person, but I at least own up to the responsibilities I've taken on. I love all my animals as if they were my children, and I'd do anything in my power to help them ... period.
I have grave concerns for where our society is going if we don't wake up soon. Our so-called medical professionals would rather hand us a bunch of pills than treat the cause of our problems ... our legal system places so much weight on protecting the criminals rights that the victims get victimized again ... our workplaces have become a den of paranoia because no one wants to take personal responsibility for their actions ... the list goes on and on. I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm pretty fed up.
